This collection contains correspondence, clippings, speeches, and land title records. Box 1 contains four scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and correspondence, 1923-1938. Each scrapbook covers a different area of John Baron Burg's political life. One, an old ledger, contains newspaper clippings of political matters in New Mexico, 1911-1913, including several political cartoons from the Albuquerque newspapers. A second scrapbook contains newspaper articles by Burg entitled "Valencia County, Its Past History," 1937-1938. The third scrapbook is composed of clippings about the dispute between Burg and the Albuquerque City Commission regarding the lighting franchise given to the Albuquerque Gas and Electric Company, 1923-1927. It also contains clippings from Colorado concerning a lighting franchises there. The last scrapbook covers Burg's 1936 election campaign for district attorney in Valencia County for the Seventh Judicial District. It contains campaign letters and political speeches including letters from various individuals and the New Mexico Democratic State Central Committee. The second box houses political correspondence, 1932-33, personal correspondence, 1908-1929 and land claim titles of the Otero family, 1901-1942. This last contains material on land grants and documents signed by Burg's wife, Dolores Otero Burg, establishing her legal claim to property in Albuquerque.

John Baron Burg was born in Washington, D.C., on May 31, 1878. He attended Georgetown University and began his legal career in 1898. He came to Albuquerque in 1906 and was admitted to the Bar of the Second Judicial District Court on April 6, 1909. Burg served as probate judge of Bernalillo County and in the first state legislature of New Mexico. In 1936 he was elected district attorney of the Seventh Judicial District.
